Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 VS Apple Watch

Everybody who loves smartwatches interested in taking a look at the newest introduction of Samsung i.e. Gear S2. However they have to wait a little more time to physically see and experience it, as Samsung has planned to launch this product by October 2015.  It will be unveiled together with Gear S2 classic and Gear S2 3G. If you are a fan of round-faced watches, this new design will be your perfect match. However, let’s have a look at all the details and analyze how the features of Samsung Gear S2 compete with Apple watch.

Design and display

The all new Samsung Gear S2 provides a 1.2-inch circular AMOLED display (320×320, 302ppi). On the other hand, The Apple Watch comes with two display sizes respectively; 1.34” 272×340 and 1.54” 312×390 AMOLED display.


As mentioned earlier, the Gear S2 comes in a circular shaped face and the Apple Watch has a sporty rectangular shaped face. Samsung Gear S2 comes to you in 03 models. Interestingly Apple Watch too comes in three models to select offering the freedom of selection to the clients.


Processor and OS

The Gear S2 is powered with a 1.0GHz dual-core processor. It runs on Samsung’s Tizen-based platform specially designed for Samsung wearables. The Apple Watch on the other hand, powered with its own S1 processor and runs on Apple’s Watch OS. Both smartwatches run smoothly tough.

User interface

Both of these devices have touchscreens. However, there are ways of interacting with the smartwatches’ faces. The Gear S2 has a rotator bezel which makes it possible for you to navigate the device options, view the notifications and open the apps.

The Apple Watch has something similar which functions as the rotator bezel called Digital Crown. To mention a difference, Apple Watch comes with Force Touch technology which enables users to send a secret message, like a heartbeat, to somebody else with an Apple Watch.


A 250mAh battery is included to power the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. Upon a single full charge, the battery lasts 3 days. Gear S2 3G is powered with a 300mAh battery which probably lasts almost the same time.

When it comes to Apple Watch, the battery will last up to 18 hours with mixed usage. That is equate to 90 approximate notifications, roughly 90 time checks, about 45 minutes of app use and a 30-minute workout session associated with music streaming through Bluetooth. Apple Watch’s battery is replaceable and it takes roughly 90 minutes to charge 80% of the battery. If you expect to charge the battery from zero to 100, you should charge it for 2.5 hrs

Once again, it seems that the Apple Watch is losing the battery life contest.

Storage and other internal components

In Gear S2, there is 4GB of onboard storage, 512MB of RAM, NFC, heart rate monitor, Wi-Fi (b/g/n), GPS, accelerometer, gyro, barometer and heart rate sensors in the Gear S2 features. The 3G version has a special feature called “the first-ever e-SIM with voice capability.”

On the other hand, the Apple Watch does provide 8GB internal memory, heart rate sensor, accelerometer, ambient light and gyroscope, Wi‑Fi (802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and GPS.

Price and Release date

The Gear S2 is to be released in October 2015  at a price starting from $349 while the Apple Watch in available in store at a price starting from $460

Apple Watch VS Asus ZenWatch 2

The Asus ZenWatch 2 has just been revealed and should hit the store somewhere in 2015. Yet, there are a lot of good smartwatch down there, so time for a comparison between the Asus ZenWatch 2 and the Apple Watch

ASUSTek Computer Inc unveiled its new ASUS ZenWatch 2 smartwatch at IFA 2015. It is a rectangular shaped Android Wear smartwatch. Because of the announcement of Android Wear for iOS, now, even iPhone users can consider to use this as a replacement for Apple Watch.

Design and dimensions

ZenWatch 2 has a rectangular shape and comes in two stainless-steel case sizes with Silver, Gunmetal, and Rose Gold color options. The dimensions of the larger ZenWatch 2 WI501Q are 49 x 41mm, with a 60g of weight. The smaller ZenWatch 2 WI502Q is 45 x 37mm with a weight of 50g.  Personalization options comes with 18 different strap materials and color options, there are more than 50 changeable watch faces and a FaceDesigner smartphone app to let the users to create their own watch faces with some customized styles and functionalities.


Apple Watch also available in two case sizes: 38mm and 42mm. It is available in three versions: the stainless-steel Watch, the anodized aluminum Watch Sport and 18-karat gold Watch Edition.



The larger ZenWatch 2 WI501Q comes with a 1.63-inch AMOLED display with 320 x 320 pixels and 278ppi. The display of smaller 45mm ZenWatch 2 WI502Q is 1.45-inch AMOLED 280 x 280 pixels and 273ppi. The touch screen is covered with curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3.


The retina touchscreen display of the Apple Watch comes along with Force Touch and sapphire glass or Ion-X glass cover. However, it depends on the model. Comes in 38mm at 340×272 pixels; 42mm at 390×312 pixels.



The ZenWatch 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 @ 1.2 GHz supported by 512MB RAM. The Apple Watch has a Apple S1 Processor @ 520 Mhz and 512 MB RAM. Nothing much to say here. Both smartwatches run smoothly so the processor shouldn’t really be taken into consideration.


The ZenWatch 2 comes with 2-finger touch and swiping gestures to navigate between screens. It has a metal crown to access apps and turn the screen on or off. The Apple Watch as  a capacitive touch, Force touch Digital crown. Both smartwatch have a right side button.

the Asus ZenWatch 2 sports 4GB while the Apple Watch has 8GB internal memory. To be honest, having a LG Urbane with 4GB, I don’t really see the importance of internal memory as all the apps are stored in my phone. At some point, when their respective app store will be full of smartwatch apps, it will then be an important perk, but by that time, you will most likely wear another smartwatch.


The ZenWatch 2 has various features including A 6-Axis accelerometer and gyroscope with sensor-hub. Also it has built-in pedometer for step-counting, and activity tracking. Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi.

The Apple Watch has a Heart rate sensor, accelerometer, ambient light and gyroscope. Wi‑Fi (802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz) and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and GPS


The 49mm ZenWatch 2 has a 400mAh battery and the 45mm version has a 300mAh battery.  Battery lasts two days after a single charge and the magnetic charger delivers 35% faster charging.

The Apple Watch can provide 18 hours of usage with a single charge, which is similar to 90 notifications, 90 time checks, 45 minutes of app use with 30-minute workout session with Bluetooth music streaming. It requires 90 minutes to charge up to 80 percent. However, within 2.5 hours the battery will charge completely.

It seems that the ZenWatch 2 has a longer battery life than the Apple Watch, which can be a crucial element when buying a smartwatch.

Operating system

The ZenWatch 2 runs Android Wear, which is now compatible with iOS too, while the Apple Watch runs watch OS 1.0.1.

Hard to find a winner here, as at the end, there are no winner in this war 🙂 it really depends your preferences. iPhone users will tend to prefer Watch OS while Android fan will most likely stick to Android Wear.

The ZenWatch 2 has been announced during the IFA last month and should be released in october  starting at 170$

The Apple Watch has been released in 10th April 2015 and its price starts from $460
