Samsung Gear S2

Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 VS Apple Watch

Everybody who loves smartwatches interested in taking a look at the newest introduction of Samsung i.e. Gear S2. However they have to wait a little more time to physically see and experience it, as Samsung has planned to launch this product by October 2015.  It will be unveiled together with Gear S2 classic and Gear S2 3G. If you are a fan of round-faced watches, this new design will be your perfect match. However, let’s have a look at all the details and analyze how the features of Samsung Gear S2 compete with Apple watch.

Design and display

The all new Samsung Gear S2 provides a 1.2-inch circular AMOLED display (320×320, 302ppi). On the other hand, The Apple Watch comes with two display sizes respectively; 1.34” 272×340 and 1.54” 312×390 AMOLED display.

As mentioned earlier, the Gear S2 comes in a circular shaped face and the Apple Watch has a sporty rectangular shaped face. Samsung Gear S2 comes to you in 03 models. Interestingly Apple Watch too comes in three models to select offering the freedom of selection to the clients.

Processor and OS

The Gear S2 is powered with a 1.0GHz dual-core processor. It runs on Samsung’s Tizen-based platform specially designed for Samsung wearables. The Apple Watch on the other hand, powered with its own S1 processor and runs on Apple’s Watch OS. Both smartwatches run smoothly tough.

User interface

Both of these devices have touchscreens. However, there are ways of interacting with the smartwatches’ faces. The Gear S2 has a rotator bezel which makes it possible for you to navigate the device options, view the notifications and open the apps.

The Apple Watch has something similar which functions as the rotator bezel called Digital Crown. To mention a difference, Apple Watch comes with Force Touch technology which enables users to send a secret message, like a heartbeat, to somebody else with an Apple Watch.

A 250mAh battery is included to power the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. Upon a single full charge, the battery lasts 3 days. Gear S2 3G is powered with a 300mAh battery which probably lasts almost the same time.

When it comes to Apple Watch, the battery will last up to 18 hours with mixed usage. That is equate to 90 approximate notifications, roughly 90 time checks, about 45 minutes of app use and a 30-minute workout session associated with music streaming through Bluetooth. Apple Watch’s battery is replaceable and it takes roughly 90 minutes to charge 80% of the battery. If you expect to charge the battery from zero to 100, you should charge it for 2.5 hrs

Once again, it seems that the Apple Watch is losing the battery life contest.

Storage and other internal components

In Gear S2, there is 4GB of onboard storage, 512MB of RAM, NFC, heart rate monitor, Wi-Fi (b/g/n), GPS, accelerometer, gyro, barometer and heart rate sensors in the Gear S2 features. The 3G version has a special feature called “the first-ever e-SIM with voice capability.”

On the other hand, the Apple Watch does provide 8GB internal memory, heart rate sensor, accelerometer, ambient light and gyroscope, Wi‑Fi (802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and GPS.

Price and Release date

The Gear S2 is to be released in October 2015  at a price starting from $349 while the Apple Watch in available in store at a price starting from $460

Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 Release Date

People were expecting the release of Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 during the Mobile World Congress, which was held in Barcelona earlier this year. Unfortunately, the announcement did not arrive during the Congress. Therefore, we can expect the release of Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 during Samsung’s IFA conference, which is scheduled to be held on 3rd September.

A look at Samsung Gear S2 Tizen interface

Still a couple of days before the IFA and Samsung is still feeding us with some news about the upcoming Gear S2. Today we have look at the Tizen interface thanks to a short video.

We can see a leather band and the rotative bezel, which allows to do action without touching the screen.

The interface with icons looking like bubbles remind the Appe Watch and LG Watch Urbane LTE (the Urbane LTE runs a modified version of WebOS).

We can find a hearth rate monitor, a phone application, confirming the nano SIM port rumored recently, a weather app, agenda and sport applications. It seems that Samsung partnered with Nike as we can see a pre-installed app along Samsung own fitness apps. Watchfaces seems pretty diverse and we don’t see  a black strip at the bottom of the screen.

The smartwatch Gear S2 will be presented in a couple of days at IFA on september, 3rd. Short wait !

The smartwatch Samsung Gear S2 should sport un nano-SIM port

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ as well as its new smartwatch Gear S2 during the Unpacked 2015. We already had a glimpse at its design and user interface but no specs had leaked. Today we learned that the last Samsung smartwatch could sport a nano-SIM port.

The Italien blog indicates that the Gear S2 could be autonomous thanks to namo-SIM and therefore will capable of making phone calls, sending text and use data.

Also, it appears that the Samsung Gear G2 will cost around 300€. We will try to confirm those in no time. In any case, the IFA starts on September, 3rd so we will know everything about the watch soon enough.

Which smartwatch to buy in 2015 : Motorola 360 2, Tag Heuer Carrera, Samsung Gear S2 ?

I wouldn’t say I am a fan of smartwatch, i just owe a Samsung Smartband and recently a LG Urbane. But to honest, I’m following the market, and always open to buy a new smartwatch.  I have been quite impressed by the LG Urbane and Huawei smartwatch at Mobile World Congress this wear and I went for the LG as the Huawei was, and is not yet available.

This wearable market is becoming massive and all the manufacturers are going to show their new toys, so this is what you have or will have in stock in 2015 if you are looking to buy a smartwatch.

Tag Heuer is working closely with Google and Intel for their first smartwatch, the Tag Heuer Carrera Wearable 01. While all the software side is developed in the Silicon Valley, the rest is built in Switzerland. The Tag Heuer Carrera Wearable 01 will be a true jewel of technology with a lot a built in sensors (steps,calories..), a battery life of around 40h, which is quite compared to what is offered at the moment.

Also, one thing will differentiate this smartwatch from the competition, is it will incorporate interchangeable components that will let you upgrade the Carrera Wearable. We also know the price, $1400, and it will be available in November in the US.

I had the chance to see the Huawei Watch during my stay in Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress and was impressed by the quality of the display and « real watch » feeling. We already know a couple of thing about this smartwatch :

The Pebble Time Steel, a more luxurious version of the Pebble Time, is now available to pre order . What differentiate the Pebble Smartwatch from the rest of the competition ? It’s a smartwatch that contains only the essential features (not saying that in a pejorative way) and that lasts! While the Pebble Time has a battery life of 7 days, the Steel version can last 10 days! This is due to the e-paper display and the less evolved LCD screen.

While the Pebble Time has a battery life of 7 days, the Steel version can last 10 days!

You can find common apps for your Pebble Time Steel and the watch is compatible with IOS and Android. The Pebble Time Steel will cost you $250. It will ship to new buyers in 6 to 8 weeks. All of the color options are still available, including the red-gold combo and the ones with metal bands.
